Nichola Scillitoe

Legal Executive
Nichola Scillitoe is an Associate Member of the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives

Nichola has been an Associate Member of the Institute of Legal Executives since August 2011.  She was awarded best management student in team leading in 2008.  She also has an NVQ Level 3 (Secretarial with Law) in 1992.

Nichola says "I aim to provide unbiased, professional advice in a timely, friendly manner.  I always try to go the extra mile for clients.  I am a good listener, patient and sympathetic to my clients needs, and always treat my clients as I would want to be treated.  Sometimes clients come to us at what is a highly stressful and emotional time for them.  To help people when they have lost someone close to them is a privilege, and I feel a huge sense of achievement if I am able to provide advice and clarity at a time when they may feel vulnerable.

Prior to having my daughter, I enjoyed windsurfing and deep-sea diving (not only abroad but also in the UK).  I now cherish spending time with family and friends, supporting my daughter in the local girl’s football team and helping with her other hobbies.  I also enjoy cycling (without any children!) when the opportunity arises.

I assist our local primary school and help out the school PTA whenever possible.

I deal with the administration of estates, from instruction to estate accounts and distribution.  I also handle applications to claim the Residence Nil Rate Band (RNRB) and transfer of RNRB, including applying the tapering provisions (where applicable).

Much of my work is the drafting of Wills from simple basic Wills to complex matters, advising clients of potential claims on an estate under the Inheritance (Provision for Family and Dependents) Act 1975 and advising on Inheritance Tax allowances and liabilities.  I also give advice and prepare Deeds of Variation, Lasting Powers of Attorney and General Powers of Attorney.

Part of my work involves dealing with day-to-day management of my clients’ affairs, such as liaising with carers and various organisations on their behalf.  I also liaise with HM Land Registry with regards to the removal of deceased joint proprietors, severing of joint tenancies and cancelling and/or removing restrictions.

I work in an area of Law that I am passionate about as it inspires me to continue to learn.  I enjoy the challenges it brings, and I particularly like helping people and making a difference in people’s lives.  I am driven by the satisfaction that comes from performing well and taking pride in my work.  I previously worked as a secretary in civil litigation and conveyancing but found my path very early on in 1998 in the private client department."
