How Long Does a Deed of Variation Take?
When someone dies, there is already enough to deal with without extra legal uncertainty. If a deed of variation has been mentioned, one of the first questions is usually how long it is all going to take. The answer is that there is no fixed timetable, but it is not something you should leave too long. If the variation is intended to be effective for tax purposes, it generally needs to be completed within 2 years of the date of death and any beneficiary whose entitlement is affected will usually need to agree to the variation.
